Chelsea duo suffer injuries in the Champions League clash against Malmo

Chelsea duo Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner have suffered injury setbacks against the Swedish champion Malmo in a Champions League encounter on Wednesday night.

The Blues comprehensively beat the Allsvenskan side by 4-0 thanks to a double contribution by Jorginho from the penalty spot. Andreas Christensen and substitute Kai Havertz were the other two who put their names on the scoresheet.

The Belgian attacker had to be withdrawn at the 22nd-minute mark due to an ankle injury and the fellow German teammate had to be substituted as well before the interval for a hamstring issue.

It is looking likely that Thomas Tuchel’s side will have to play without a recognized centre forward for the upcoming few weeks which could be a big headache for the German boss given the busy schedule ahead for the Blues across all competitions.

Chelsea duo will be out for a few weeks after sustaining injuries against Malmo:

It is extremely unfortunate for Chelsea to play without a centre-forward during this busy schedule in all competitions. However, it was surprising to see that Tuchel went with his full squad against Malmo at home.

The German boss said in the press before the game that Lukaku is feeling tired mentally due to congested fixtures for club and country. So, picking the player for this encounter was not a wise decision from the former Paris Saint-Germain boss.

Meanwhile, Chelsea is at the top of the Premier League table. And they are going quite well to mount a title challenge this term. However, following the injury setback to record signing Romelu Lukaku. It might cause a big challenge for Tuchel’s side to break down opposition defence without a recognized number nine. So, it will be interesting to see how the Blues boss can manage this situation in favour of the west London club.
