Havertz and Werner Should Change Gears, Joe Cole Defends Werner

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Chelsea‘s new German recruits Kai Havertz and Timo Werner are finding it difficult to adapt to the Premier League.

Timo Werner had last scored in a 4-1 win against Sheffield United on 7th November in the Premier League. Similarly, Kai Havertz scored his previous goal in a 3-3 draw against Southampton.

Both the Germans have been finding it difficult in their stint with the Blues Both players recently came under criticism over recent form. However, Joe Cole believes that the best is yet to come from Werner.

Werner and Havertz – not clinical enough:

Kai Havertz joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window. The 21-year-old midfielder had a great season back in Germany and was ready for a new challenge. But he has scored only 4 goals in 17 matches for the Blues.

His German teammate, Timo Werner was another prolific signing for the London giants. Werner came from a high-flying RB Leipzig, who have been brilliant in the Bundesliga. He had scored just 8 goals in 20 matches for the club.

However, for the last few matches, both have not struck their best form.

Werner needs some rest, suggests Joe Cole

In an interview conducted by Amazon Prime Video via Metro, former Chelsea Midfielder Joe Cole has suggested that Werner should improve his finishing skills.

Werner has been in poor form and has not scored for eight matches as of now. He is currently playing as a left forward instead of a centre forward position.

“I think he’s had a good start to his Chelsea career. You can compare him with other big foreign imports, sometimes they come to this league, certainly in these situations you have to understand it might take time for them to settle.”

– Joe Cole

As per Joe Cole, Werner needs to brush up his attacking skills. However, other players should be given a chance and Werner needs to be dropped according to him.

“I think for him and Havertz it has as well. Werner probably settled in a little bit quicker. They are two top players. I know because you see the glimpses. But I have no doubt Werner and Havertz will be massive players for Chelsea.”

– Joe Cole

After two back-to-back defeats, Chelsea would be looking to bounce back and would certainly h to prepare themselves for the big Champions League Round of 16 against Atletico Madrid.

The Blues host West Ham United in the next Premier League match on 22nd December.
