Chelsea are clueless in this current season about selecting the front three and their poor form.
Frank Lampard had a busy summer transfer window last time and spending more than €220 million on buying players.
The Blues acquired the services of Timo Werner coming from RB Leipzig, Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen and Hakim Ziyech from Ajax.
However, let’s have a look who might perfectly fit in Lampard’s 4-3-3 system as the front three for Chelsea.
Pulisic, Tammy and Werner – Most-used Front-Three:
Christian Pulisic got a more offensive role under Frank Lampard as a left-winger. His agility, pace and attacking instinct could help the Blues create some wonderful chances upfront.
Tammy Abraham has been an established centre forward scoring whenever he gets the ball glued to his feet.
Timo Werner is well-known for his speed and clinical finishing. However, this season his form hasn’t been up to the mark.
The trio last played in the 3-1 defeat to arch-rivals, Arsenal. The chemistry between Abraham and Werner has helped the Blues turn the games multiple times.
However, Werner has not struck his form playing as a right-winger.
Pulisic, Werner and Ziyech – new front-three for Chelsea?
Timo Werner might get a chance to score if he plays as a centre-forward. However, Chelsea’s most goals might have come from centre-forward position (Giroud – 9, Tammy – 8).
Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech would be available as the two side-wingers who can provide some good through balls.
Both Pulisic and Ziyech have established themselves previously as very good attacking midfielders. Hence, passing and pushing upfront won’t be a problem.
However, it would be a mistake to replace Giroud or Tammy Abraham with Werner as the chances of goalscoring would decrease.
Werner, Giroud and Havertz – comfortable Chelsea front three?
Timo Werner would be keen on playing his most preferred position during his stint at RB Leipzig. He scored in 5 matches in the last 10 matches he played as a left-winger for the Red Bulls (the last against 2-2 draw against Lyon).
Olivier Giroud has been brilliant when it comes to scoring goals. He ended his frustration of not providing much playing time by scoring four goals against Sevilla in the Champions League.
Kai Havertz would love to play in this position where he used to score goals for his previous club, Leverkusen
However, the Blues finding back of the net won’t be a problem if Giroud is ready to score assisted by Havertz and Werner.
However, Lampard suffered a loss to Everton while testing this combo.
Werner, Abraham and Ziyech – Results matter!
This is one of the combos that has been used and the best possible results were achieved. However, it seems Lampard has forgotten about this wonderful trio.
With this trio upfront, the London club has been successful in 4 matches they played initially winning all of them.
Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech adapted to this format well and Tammy delivered goals whenever necessary.
Kai Havertz should play as a central attacking midfielder. At this position, he scored a hat-trick for Chelsea against Barnsley in a 6-0 win.
Chelsea are struggling in the Premier League at 9th place and Frank Lampard should make some fast decisions to avoid the sack from the owner.
