Chelsea has a very bad start of the season as pressure increases

Graham Potter

The 2022-23 Premier League season of Chelsea was undeniably tumultuous. The decision to bring in former Brighton manager Graham Potter appeared promising initially but ultimately didn’t yield the desired results. The interim leadership of Frank Lampard that followed also failed to improve the team’s on-field performance.

Chelsea ended the season in a disappointing 12th position after the conclusion of the 38-game campaign. It was a disastrous outcome for the club at Stamford Bridge, as they missed out on participation in any European competitions.

Following the disappointing managerial spells, the Chelsea hierarchy made the decision to appoint Mauricio Pochettino. That is with the hope of rejuvenating the struggling club and propelling them back to success. The aim was to return to competing with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool at the top of the division. Rather than settling for mid-table mediocrity.

However, there is a sense of unwelcome déjà vu currently looming over Chelsea. As Pochettino’s team finds themselves in 11th place in the early season standings, facing another challenging start to the campaign.

Chelsea suffering a lot in goal scoring abilities

Despite the substantial investments in high-priced signings like Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson, and many others, Chelsea’s performances have shown little improvement. Jackson, who came with a £32 million price tag, has only managed to score twice in the league. This has led to growing dissatisfaction among the club’s eager fanbase.

The goal-scoring statistics of Chelsea highlight the significant gap. That is between the two-time Champions League winners and the teams currently positioned at the top of the Premier League. Aston Villa and Newcastle United occupies the 5th and 6th spots in the division. However, they have double Chelsea’s meager tally of 13 goals, with 26 goals each.

The leading goal-scorer for Chelsea in the current campaign is Raheem Sterling, the seasoned winger who has found the back of the net four times in all competitions for the Blues.
