Chelsea plotting Hudson-Odoi and Sancho swap deal

Fresh from their Champions League victory, Chelsea is planning to strengthen themselves this summer. Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund is reported as their main target. And they could tempt Dortmund by adding Callum Hudson-Odoi to sweeten the deal.

Chelsea wants to back their manager Thomas Tuchel in the summer. The German is an admirer of Sancho and wants to bring him to London. The Blues can add Hudson-Odoi in a swap deal, as he was not able to cement his place under Tuchel.

Jadon Sancho has been hinted to return to the Premier League this summer, with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool looking to secure his service. Dortmund has also stated that they will be ready to sell the English superstar this summer.

HUDSON-ODOI AN IDEAL SANCHO REPLACEMENT?

Sancho has been amazing since his move to Germany. The English international has played 104 times for Dortmund in the Bundesliga, scoring 38 times and assisting for 40 goals. His impressive output is accompanied by excellent dribbling and passing. A creative powerhouse, the 21-year-old has been key for his club in the last few years.

Hudson-Odoi is also an English winger, who is extremely talented. In the last year, the 20-year-old has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, which never materialized. But unlike Sancho his game time has been limited, finding it difficult to get into the main team. He has only played 57 times for Chelsea in the Premier League over 4 seasons. In this time he has only scored 3 goals while assisting 9.

Thus there is a clear dip when one is comparing Sancho and Hudson-Odoi. Sancho clearly is more experienced and has astronomical output. Hudson-Odoi has found it hard to find a place in the Chelsea team under multiple managers. He has played more than 1000 minutes in a Premier League season just once.

CHELSEA NEED TO ACT FAST

Dortmund will have a tough decision when it comes to accepting a swap deal. Hudson-Odoi is not at the level of Sancho. But he is still young and promising. There is enough talent and what might be needed is regular playing time. Dortmund has to find a replacement for Sancho and Hudson-Odoi is not a bad option to start with.

Any deal will depend on the incoming manager Marco Rose. Unless Rose is keen on bringing Hudson-Odoi, any swap deal could not happen. Dortmund’s strained relationship with Thomas Tuchel could also act against any future transfer between the clubs.

As for Chelsea, if they want to sign Sancho, they will have to act fast. Manchester United is heavily linked with the English winger and is considered as his likely destination. Liverpool has also entered the race and will make it more difficult. With Dortmund insisting that any transfer for Sancho be done before the start of their preseason, clubs should act fast.
