In response to his vote for FIFA’s Best Award, David Alaba has been subjected to horrific abuse from Real Madrid. The biggest prize of the night went to Lionel Messi, beating Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema. For his votes, Alaba, however, receives lots of horrendous abuse. Messi finished first in the Austrian captain’s vote, followed by Benzema and Mbappe.
One of Real Madrid’s players that is Alaba chose Messi over Benzema, which angered fans. The problem is that they’ve taken it too far. On Twitter and Instagram, he received racial abuse under the hashtag #AlabaOut. There are obvious reasons why we won’t disclose that abuse.
Just for choosing Messi over Benzema? This is absolutely shambolic.
What did Messi say after winning the award?
Having led Argentina to World Cup glory in December, Messi was a firm favorite for the award. He also spoke of his fantastic year when receiving the award for the second time.
Messi said: “Wow it’s amazing. With (Karim) Benzema who isn’t here and Kylian (Mbappe), it’s been a tremendous year, it’s an honour for me to be here tonight and to win this award.”
“Obviously I’d like to express thanks to my team mates, Scaloni ,without them, I wouldn’t be here. I’d like to pay tribute to all of my team mates and the team as a whole, we did such a great job.”
“I achieved the dream that I’d been hoping for for so long and finally I managed to achieve it. It is the most wonderful thing that happened to me in my career. Very few people achieve that and I’ve been lucky enough to do so.”
“Finally, I’d like to thank my family and the people back in Argentina for having celebrated this wonderful achievement that will go down in the memory for so long.”
However, Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe were included in the World XI along with Messi. Thibaut Courtois, Achraf Hakimi, Virgil van Dijk, Joao Cancelo are some of the players named in the World XI. Also Kevin De Bruyne, Luka Modric, Casemiro and Erling Haaland were present in the list.
