Departures: Fall, Gill, Jahouh, Fernandes, and Bhatt wish Mumbai City farewell

The departures of Ahmed Jahouh, defenders Hardik Bhatt and Mourtada Fall, Gursimrat Singh Gill as well as midfielder Raynier Fernandes have been officially announced by Mumbai City FC. On Wednesday, the club made the departures known via their social media accounts.

Mumbai City Departures

After five arduous years, Fernandes said the Islanders goodbye. The centre midfielder joined the team in 2018 and quickly established himself as an important part of the Islanders’ squad. He was crucial to the team’s historic victory in the 2020–21 season, when they won an unprecedented “double” of the Hero ISL League Winners’ Shield and the Hero ISL Trophy.

He made 76 appearances for the team while he was there, with three goals and four assists. At Odisha FC, where he played in 24 games across all competitions and contributed with four assists, Fernandes spent the whole 2022–23 season on loan.

Jahouh, who possesses exceptional technical and tactical skills, joined Mumbai City FC in October 2020, having already made a name for himself as a top midfielder in the division.

The 34-year-old scored three goals and added seven assists to his previous season’s total of five.

Bhatt played in just one Hero ISL 2022–23 game for the Islanders. After joining on loan from Rajasthan United FC during the winter transfer window. Nevertheless, Bhatt played for his team in each of the Hero Super Cup’s three contests.

Similar to Gursimrat Singh Gill, Mumbai City FC’s reserves played a significant role in their League Shield-winning 2022–23 season. Even though Gursimrat Singh Gill only made one appearance for the Islanders. In the Durand Cup, the defender played two games for the Islanders, who fell short to Bengaluru FC in the championship match.

Mourtada Fall transferred from FC Goa to Mumbai City FC in October 2020. He headed along the west coast and quickly rose to prominence in the Islanders’ defence. He guided Mumbai City FC to the largest football event in Asia, the 2022 AFC Champions League. The 35-year-old continued to leave his imprint both on and off the pitch. Mumbai City went on to finish second in their Group B. And Fall shone through with outstanding defensive efforts in each of the Islanders’ six tournament games.
