START OF DOWNTOWN HEROES FC
The club came into existence with three buddies of Srinagar – NGO owner Irfan Shahmiri, ad man Mushtaq Bashir and Kaiser Bhat. What started as a rag-tag team i.e., consisting mostly of local players from the region is currently leading the Jammu & Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) Professional League. Next month, the Srinagar would be participating in the Durand Cup in Guwahati. The debutants finished the group in second position below Delhi FC with 14 points in I-League 2. The club, however, missed out on qualifying for the final round but made their mark in Indian football.
Downtown Heroes FC coach Hilal Rasool says,
“The region has the potential to become feeder for Indian Football. We are a community-driven club. There is massive talent here and it is still untapped.“
