Durand Cup 2023: What can we expect from the local lads, Bodoland FC?

Bodoland FC is going to participate in the 132nd edition of the Durand Cup. Bodoland FC is in Group F along with ISL side Odisha FC, I-League side Rajasthan United FC, and the Indian Army Football Team. All Group F games will be played at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) stadium in Kokrajhar.

Bodoland FC: A New Name in Indian Football:

Bodoland FC, a Kokrajhar-based football club, is one of the newest names in Indian Football. It is a community-based football club that was born out of the autonomous Assamese region of Bodoland. Bodoland area contains four districts of Assam (Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Udalgiri).

Bodoland started their journey with the goal of providing opportunities to the young stars of the Assamese region. Currently, the Autonomous Administrative Region of the Bodoland Territorial Region Council is the sponsor of this club. In its inaugural season, the club also won its first ever Inter Sixth Schedule Football League 2022 (ISPL) by defeating LAI Autonomous District Council.

Bodoland will play their maiden Durand Cup this season:

Bodoland FC was registered with the AIFF in 2022. This year, they are going to compete in their first-ever big tournament, the Durand Cup. Moreover, the new team from Bodoland will get home support as all the Group F matches will be held in Kokrajhar.

Squad Analysis:

Bodoland has formed a team with a mixture of youth and experience. Along with veteran fullback Rakesh Pradhan, the team consists of young, talented local players who will participate in the century-old football tournament. Besides they have signed experienced foreigners like Ansumana Kromah, Joseph Mayowa Olaleye, William Opoku, and Echezona Anyichie.

Bodoland appoints Daimalu Basumatary as their head coach:

An AFC B license-holding coach, Daimalu Basumatary, appointed as Bodoland’s head coach. The local coach has previously managed another Assam-based club, United Chirang Duar FC. Especially, Daimalu is hopeful for a good outing with Bodoland in their maiden Durand Cup season.

Expectations from Bodoland FC:

Undoubtedly, Bodoland FC will try to make an impact in their debut season. With the local boys and home support, this team may also emerge as a tough opponent for the other clubs.
