East Bengal FC welcomes Nishu Kumar

Nishu Kumar has been allocated to East Bengal FC by Kerala Blasters FC on a one-year loan. The team however revealed it on Wednesday.

Nishu had 17 appearances in the 2022–23 Hero ISL. And recorded one assist, twelve interceptions, twenty-two clearances, and fifteen successful tackles. In addition, he participated in the entire Hero Super Cup 2023 season for KBFC.

Under the leadership of current East Bengal FC Head Coach Carles Cuadrat, the 25-year-old won the Hero ISL championship with Bengaluru FC (BFC) in the 2018–19 season. Additionally, he was a member of the KBFC team that placed second in the 2021–22 Hero ISL. Nishu is an ambipedal full-back. He will give the club a lot of versatility because of his exceptional ability to play on both sides of the game.

“It’s a matter of great pride for me to join an iconic institution like East Bengal. This club has a huge fan base, which is always a great motivation for a player to give his best,” Nishu said after joining the club.

“I am also thrilled to reunite with Coach Carles, who groomed me in my formative years at BFC. We will be playing a lot of matches in the upcoming season and I will give my best in every match and try to bring joy to our fans that they truly deserve,” he added.

Nishu Kumar was born in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. First studied football fundamentals at the Chandigarh Football Academy before moving on to the AIFF Elite Academy. A top full-back in the Hero ISL ever since, he later joined Bengaluru FC. There he developed into a seasoned professional.

Overall, Nishu has accumulated three goals, two assists, 82 interceptions, and 189 clearances in his 82 Hero ISL games to date.

After announcing the arrivals of Nandhakumar Sekar from Odisha FC and Borja Herrera from Hyderabad FC. Nishu is East Bengal FC’s third acquisition of the summer.

Eleven players have also left the Red and Golds as Cuadrat oversees the team’s reorganisation. The eleven players who left the team are listed below: End of Loan for Amarjit Singh Kiyam, Himanshu Jangra, Naveen Kumar, Suvam Sen, Sumeet Passi, Jerry Lalrinzuala, Semboi Haokip, Charalambos Kyriakou, Jake Jervis, Alex Lima, and Jordan O’Doherty. End of Contract for Himanshu Jangra, Alex Lima, and Jordan O’Doherty.
