Reliable journalist, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Napoli star, Victor Osimhen could join Chelsea in 2024. This has given Chelsea fans a lot of hope.
Mauricio Pochettino has publically stated that the Blues need to sign more quality players. According to recent reports, Pochettino wants Chelsea to sign taller players. He believes there is a real problem with lack of height in his squad. As well as this, Poch desires new Chelsea squad members with leadership qualities.
Romano says new contract won’t affect Chelsea move
Chelsea were thought to have been dealt a real blow in their pursuit this week, as Osimhen seems set to sign a new Napoli contract. However, Romano claimed that the renewal is unlikely to affect his potential move away in 2024, likely to Chelsea. Though a January deal seems off.
“As I’ve previously reported, it never looked likely that Napoli would sell Osimhen in January, and that remains the case, but I think it doesn’t necessarily change much in terms of a transfer for summer 2024,” said Romano.
“The possibility of a move later next year remains valid, even if January was always unrealistic. The release clause will be included in the contract, reported as being around €130m, but still to be confirmed. This should be made official soon, but I expect Osimhen will still be one to watch for next summer. We know Chelsea are making a new striker a priority and I’ve mentioned links with Osimhen before, so let’s see what happens there, but it won’t be something imminent,” Romano added.
Chelsea have to make a choice
With Romano making it clear that Napoli won’t sell Osimhen in January, Chelsea have to make a decision. It is no surprise that they desperately need a if they want to improve this season. However, if they bring in a quality striker in January, he won’t come cheap and the Blues will not be able to go after the Nigerian next summer.
Osimhen is a proven goalscorer, and even if a move would be in the summer, it could be one worth waiting for if Chelsea can adapt in the meantime. The Blues now have a choice to make; whether to improve the current campaign, or wait for Osimhen who’ll possibly come in next season
