Getafe reportedly deny claims of a bid from Arsenal for £22 million striker

VITOR ROQUE

HITC Football understands La Liga side Getafe have denied claims of Arsenal making a bid for their striker Borja Mayoral.

It is no secret that Arsenal need a prolific striker. The need was made evident in last week’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the FA Cup. The game could have been over by half-time but a combination of Arsenal’s poor finishing and brilliant defending from the Reds meant it was goalless at the break and the away side took their chances when it came to them in the second half.

There were quite a few rumors recently linking Mayoral to Arsenal. However it is being understood that sources from the Spanish side have played this down.

Sources have reportedly told HITC Football that, as it stands, the Gunners are yet to make an offer for the forward who has scored 12 goals in La Liga this season .Mayoral has 102 goals in 309 games across his career; Arsenal fans were surely starting to get excited about the prospect of adding a goalscorer to their team.

The other clubs linked with the Spanish forward are West Ham and Fulham.

Arsenal’s transfer plans

Arsenal are keen to bring in a forward before the transfer window shuts; but, a defender and midfielder are currently looking more likely at this moment.

Apart from Mayoral, Arsenal have also been linked to Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke this month. However,  HITC Football reported yesterday that the South Coast club would not countenance a winter sale of one of their most important players. Ivan Toney was also linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in the past; but there haven’t been many developments to that story.

What is clear, though, Arsenal need another striker and fast as they bid to win their first Premier League title in 20 years.
