Gokulam Kerala signs Pawan Kumar from Real Kashmir

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Gokulam Kerala FC have signed Pawan Kumar from Real Kashmir FC. The 25-year-old defender joins the defending I-League champions after a decent spell with the Snow Leopards.

As a result, the void left by the departure of Deepak Devrani has been filled with a younger centre-back. The Malabarians have been active in the transfer window and have been doing some exciting signings despite losing many of their experienced players to other teams.

Kashmir finished at 3rd place in the regular season but finished at 5th place in the playoffs. Whereas, the Kerala giants emerged winners after a tough three-horse title race at the end by Churchill Brothers and TRAU FC.

Pawan Kumar opening a new chapter in his life after signing for the new I-League champions Gokulam Kerala

Pawan Kumar joined Real Kashmir from ISL club NorthEast United in the 2020-21 season. However, the move was a good one as he went on to win the Durand Cup as well as the I League with the Malabarians. He also had multiple stints in the league such as playing for Salgaocar FC and Churchill Brothers.

He made seven appearances last season and as a result, lack of playing time could be a concern for him. As Devrani left for Chennaiyin, Kumar has an excellent opportunity to showcase his talent so as to reach greater heights with his new club. VC Praveen, Gokulam Kerala’s club president is excited about the new signing. He says,

“Pawan Kumar is an experienced player who can bring us more laurels. We wish him all the best for his tenure at Gokulam Kerala FC.”

Head coach Vincenzo Alberto is rebuilding his team in the training sessions as they will now be coming back into action in defending Durand Cup. The inclusion of Sudeva FC goalie Rakshit Dagar has been a boost and will Kumar add up to their title challenge this season?
