Gurkirat Singh completes move to Mumbai City FC

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Defending Champions Mumbai City FC have announced the signing of youngster Gurkirat Singh from Indian Arrows. The Chandigarh Football Academy product has signed a 3-year deal that will keep him at the club till 2024.

After spending 3 years with Indian Arrows, Gurkirat has decided to take the giant leap into the Indian Super League. And what could be more satisfying than playing for the current champions.

A very promising player, Gurkirat played for the AIFF Elite Academy prior to his time at Indian Arrows. Making 3 appearances in the I-League at just the age of 15, the versatile left-back slowly cemented his position in the team. Last season, he scored 2 goals from 13 appearances.

His performances resulted in him getting called up for the U- 16, U- 17 and U- 19 Indian National Team. In 3 appearances for the U-19 squad, he bagged a solitary goal.

Mumbai City FC are following the footsteps of their parent club Manchester City FC. Last season, they appointed former FC Goa head coach Sergio Lobera. Along with the manager, they bought the key players of Lobera’s squad at FC Goa which included Hugo Boumous, Mourtada Fall, Ahmed Jahou, Mandar Rao Dessai and Jackichand Singh.

Despite the massive depletion, FC Goa made it all the way to the semi-finals where they lost to Mumbai City FC 5-6 on penalties after playing through 2 legs. In this window, they have secured the signatures of Golden Boot winner Igor Angulo, Cassio Gabriel and Bradden Inman.

Gurkirat Singh is up for the challenge

An energetic asset, Gurkirat can play all across the left-wing. He plays a very attacking game and thus is a very big threat even when playing in a defensive position. During his time with U-16 National Team, they reached the quarter-finals of the AFC U-16 Championship in 2018. In the following year at the SAFF U-18 Championship, he was the joint top-scorer as the team lifted the trophy.

Gurkirat has stated that joining a club like Mumbai City FC is a dream coming true as it would be for any teenager. He is focused on working hard and making the best use of the opportunity given to him.
