Gursimrat Singh Gill announced by East Bengal

Hero ISL side East Bengal FC announced the signing of 26-year-old Center-Back Gursimrat Singh Gill on a three-year contract. Gursimrat is a familiar face on the Indian Football circuit. He joined along with his younger brother, Prabhsukhan Singh Gill, and both will represent the century-old Kolkata-based club in the upcoming season.

Player Profile: Gursimrat Singh Gill:

The Punjab-born defender had been with the Indian U19 Football team. He started his football journey at the AIFF Elite Academy in 2016–17. Next year, he was signed by Bengaluru FC.

Gursimrat Singh Gill has played for NorthEast United FC, Bengaluru United, Sudeva Delhi, and ATK Mohun Bagan. With Bengaluru FC, he won the Federation Cup in 2017 and the Hero ISL Trophy in 2019. His last stint was at Mumbai City FC, where he won the Hero ISL League Shield in the 2023 season.

Gill has played 13 matches for Bengaluru FC, 5 matches for NorthEast United FC, 4 matches for ATK Mohun Bagan. He played 3 matches for Mumbai City FC last year. Gill has the valuable experience of playing in major tournaments like the Federation Cup, AFC Cup, Durrand Cup, and Hero ISL.

Coach’s Corner:

East Bengal coach Carles Cuadrat said,

“I am glad to welcome the Gill brothers to the East Bengal squad. Both of them made their Hero ISL debuts under me. Even while they were at Bengaluru FC, they never seemed overwhelmed by the presence of the senior players and gave their best in each training session. Hence, I also used them in the AFC Cup at times.”

Player’s saying:

On joining East Bengal, excited Gursimrat Singh Gill expressed his thoughts by saying,

“I have played for many teams in the Hero ISL, but joining East Bengal has been one of the greatest highlights of my career. We grew up watching this club dominate Indian football, and having experienced the craze of Kolkata football before, I know how much this iconic club means to the fans. Joy East Bengal!”

The inclusion of Gursimrat Singh Gill will definitely add a lot of solidity to East Bengal’s defense. While having other Indian defenders like Athul Unnikrishnan and Lalchungnunga, East Bengal has managed to arrange a bunch of good recruitment at their backline.
