The upcoming international fixtures, friendlies against Peru and Belgium, have left some fans surprised with the call-up decisions made from German national team manager Hansi Flick. Despite being big-name players, Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller, Antonio Rüdiger, and İlkay Gündoğan will not be joining the national team for the upcoming fixtures. Although controversial, the decision to exclude them is part of an effort to experiment with different players and uncover potential hidden gems for the country like Mërgim Berisha.
Florian Plettenberg reported that Mërgim Berisha will be joining the German national team for the upcoming matches. Hansi Flick deserves significant recognition for selecting Berisha. As the player is relatively unknown to most mainstream fans, playing for Augsburg. However, Berisha has been one of the Bundesliga’s most excellent new additions this season and is presently Augsburg’s best player.

Berisha’s impressive performance against Bayern Munich, where he scored two goals, may have caught Flick’s attention. He now has three goals in two matches against one of the top teams in Germany. He is also one of the favorites in the Champions League.
Berisha has demonstrated his ability to perform at a high level against top teams. But he has also been a consistent performer for Augsburg. This season, he has scored 8 goals and provided 4 assists while averaging 1.1 key passes and 1.5 fouls drawn per game. Augsburg, currently sitting in 13th place in the Bundesliga table. They owe much of their safety from the relegation zone to Berisha’s all-around play in the attack.
Germany has been searching for a solution in the center-forward position. Berisha’s outstanding performance in the Bundesliga makes him a strong contender. Based on his form and all-around play, he has a case for being the best option. It will be interesting to see how he performs for Germany in the upcoming fixtures.
Flick deserves recognition for his decision to select Berisha, and if you are not yet familiar with Berisha, hopefully that changes soon.
