Houssem Aouar reportedly wants Real Madrid or Barcelona move over Arsenal. Aouar, the 22-year-old French footballer, currently plays for Olympique Lyonnais. Having joined Lyon in 2017, he has racked up 19 goals and 19 assists in all competitions.
His dynamism and creativity on the pitch has attracted the attention of many clubs. And one of the clubs who have kept an eye on him for a while is Arsenal.
ARE ARSENAL FORERUNNERS IN THE RACE FOR AOUAR?
With the departure of Mesut Ozil, Arsenal are on the lookout to sign a creative midfielder who can bring dynamism to their play. Hence they turned their attention to Aouar.
Arsenal were reckoned to be favorites to land the French star. However, according to ESPN, the player himself is still open to other offers that would come for him which includes offers from Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The other issue Arsenal could face is meeting the transfer fee Lyon wants for Aouar. They had initially offered €45 million for the player. However, Lyon want €60 million which is set to be the asking price they have set for the player.
Arsenal, who are 10th in the Premier League, are eager for this transfer to materialize. However, they are currently facing a financial constraint and they wouldn’t be able to meet the asking price set by Lyon.
Therefore, they have shortlisted two other midfielders to who they can turn their attention if they fail to land Aouar. The first option is Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City and the other one is Julian Brandt from Borussia Dortmund.
This transfer saga has left all doors open and it will be up to Aouar to decide whether he would want to join Arsenal or not.
