How impactful has Kylian Mbappe been for PSG?

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

The future of Kylian Mbappe has been dominating the headlines over the past couple of weeks after the Frenchman entered the final year of his contract with PSG.

Following Real Madrid’s bait to sign the 22-year-old toward the back end of the summer window, the two clubs are in a battle of words almost every day, after the conclusion of the transfer window.

The forward has also entered the battle and revealed that he wanted to leave the club this summer. The Parisiens didn’t allow his departure and the striker remained at the French capital.

However, Mbappe will be a free agent at the end of this season and he can start negotiating with a foreign club for a pre-contract in January. So, it is becoming clear that the France international should become a Real Madrid player next summer for free, given the player’s desire to play for Los Blancos.

How influential has Mbappe been for PSG?

The French sensation joined the Parisiens as a teenager from fellow Ligue 1 side AS Monaco for a whopping €180 million. The forward arrived in the French capital after enjoying a stellar season with the Monégasques, winning the league and making the Champions League semi-final.

Straightaway Mbappe showcased his talent in a bigger club with higher expectations. The forward scored 21 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions under the former manager Unai Emery.

The most important part is when PSG bought Neymar and Mbappe in the same transfer window, everyone thought that the Frenchman would benefit from the Brazilian and could learn under his tutelage. However, the 22-year-old has surpassed the expectation and established himself as a talisman at Parc De Prince over Neymar.

Mbappe has made 182 appearances in all competitions over the past five campaigns for PSG, scoring 136 goals and notching up 48 assists. The Frenchman has had more appearances than the record signing Neymar and also way more goals than the Brazilian.

Neymar suffered quite a few injury setbacks in very crucial moments of the season. But Mbappe filled that void and became a fan favourite in no time. Despite PSG’s failure to lift the Champions League, the France international has been a consistent performer for the Ligue 1 outfit.

Following the inclusion of Lionel Messi at Parc de Prince, it was thought that the Parisiens would be unstoppable in all competitions with Neymar and Mbappe alongside.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side suffered a disappointing defeat against Stade Rennais in the league last weekend. Although they are currently sitting top of the league and after beating Manchester City in Champions League they are at the top of their group. The front three hasn’t managed to start firing all guns blazing so far this season.

How big of a loss for PSG if Mbappe was to leave next season?

Losing a player of the 22-year-old’s calibre will create a huge hole in Pochettino’s squad. Mbappe has been one of the best players in world football over the past few campaigns. Finding a proper replacement will be hard for the PSG hierarchy if they fail to keep hold of their star.

The reports were suggesting during the transfer window that Real Madrid were offering almost €200 million for the French sensation. But not accepting that offer for a player who desires to leave the. And has only one year remaining in the contract, was a foolish decision from PSG.

So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Mbappe next summer. The Frenchman has already revealed that he wants to join Real Madrid. The La Liga giants are also plotting a move for the 22-year-old. Therefore, it will be yet another transfer tug of war, waiting in the upcoming transfer window.
