About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

ATK Mohun Bagan, the runners-up of the last edition of ISL, has signed offensive midfielder Hugo Boumous on a five-year deal from Mumbai City FC.

Boumous went from FC Goa to Mumbai City FC for a record sum of Rs 1.76 crore ahead of the last season. ATK Mohun Bagan now shattered that mark to retain Boumous’ talents.

“I know Kolkata as the Mecca of Indian football.  I am happy to sign with the city’s traditional and successful club, ATK Mohun Bagan. I have heard that the joy of playing in front of millions of supporters of the Green-Maroon team in Yuba Bharati is different and I shall play this time to win them. I am always hungry to win the trophy. I have brought success to the clubs that I have played in. And I shall keep this in mind as I play again. I will do my best to win. I am looking forward to seeing the passion and excitement of the Green Maroon supporters after winning the match.”-Boumous

Boumous would make the ATK Mohun Bagan squad stronger than ever

Apparently, ATKMB valued the midfielder out of consideration as a replacement for Edu Garcia, who has moved to Hyderabad FC.

Last season, Boumous scored 3 goals and provided 7 assists in helping Mumbai City win the Shield and the ISL.

The midfielder has the most assists in the history of the ISL, with 24 in 56 games. He is amongst the strongest international players in the league’s history. Boumous received the Golden Ball title when he was playing for FC Goa in the 2019-20 season. He scored 11 goals and assisted 10 goals for the club, leading the club towards the League Winners’ Shield and advancing their way to the AFC Champions League.

This summer, the Mariners also signed defender Ashutosh Mehta, expressing their commitment. The ISL’s next season is expected to start in November, with the FSDL currently looking for a viable location. ATKMB is making sure that they win the league this time which was snatched away last year.
