Igor Stimac complains about time-wasting as India’s chances look slim

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Igor Stimac was left scratching his head after India lost another set of points to Sri Lanka on Thursday. The Blue Tigers gave all that they had throughout the game but failed to capitalize on their chances. Sri Lanka knew that they were the underdogs and thus defended the goal on their life.

The game marks India’s 2nd draw in 2 games. Their opener against an unprepared Bangladesh started off on the right note. And just when everyone thought they were done for after being reduced down to 10 men, they scored the dramatic equalizer. A while they did score against Bangladesh, the Blue Tiger managed a solitary shot on target against Sri Lanka.

Igor Stimac felt that Sri Lanka did not play to win the game. According to him, while his team tried to score right from the first minute, the opponents were there to waste time. While he praised the tournament for allowing countries to develop their game, actions like this defeat the purpose.

Igor Stimac belives that the Blue Tigers can claw back

At the beginning of the tournament, Bangladesh head coach Oscar Bruzon stated that India were the favourites. In terms of their FIFA Ranking and their success in recent times, India should have got 6 points out of 6. The pressure is on Stimac’s men to perform and the head coach believes in his players.

He has assessed their performance in the 2 games as good. Better on the ball, dominating and an eye for the goal are 3 things he is happy with. The team has to be more clinical and cannot afford to squander chances like that did against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

In 19 games under Stimac, India have won only 3 raising some serious questions about his future after the tournament. The Blue Tiger have scored 18 goals and will have to win their remaining games against Nepal and Maldives. Stimac is confident that his team will play the finals on October 16th.
