Is it the end of the road for Mauricio Pochettino at PSG?

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

This has been far from the ideal season for the French giants, and it looks like Pochettino has served his time with PSG. The 49-year-old succeeded Thomas Tuchel in the January of 2021. Despite being 11 points clear at the summit Ligue 1, his tenure in Paris has been a torrid one.

In the last 12 months with the French outfit, Pochettino has lost out on 4 of the available 6 trophies. PSG narrowly missed out on the 2021 league title (to Lille), lost the 2021 UCL, defeated by Lille in the Champions Cup, and got knocked out of the 2022 Coupe de France by OGC Nice.

Pochettino, however, did manage to pick up his managerial career’s first bit of silverware with his new side. They lift the Coupe de France and the Trophée des Champions.

Pochettino a Red Devil after PSG journey?

According to Telefoot, ties between Pochettino and PSG could rely on the Champions League. It would depend on the result in their next game, with the opponents being Real Madrid (February 15, March 9).

Presently, the European championship will be the main focus for the French giants going forward. However, if they fail to make any headway, PSG might consider approaching Zinedine Zidane to take over from the Argentine.

On the other hand, Mauricio Pochettino could make a move back to English football. Manchester United will be on the lookout for a new boss this summer. For a while now, Pochettino’s name has been connected with the Red Devils in a potential takeover.

Operating at the helm currently, Ralf Rangnick is the interim manager. His time in charge will culminate at the end of the 2021-22 season. After that, he will be moved up into a 2-year consultancy role irrespective of the results in upcoming games. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur man seems to be favored to take his place.
