Bengaluru FC have announced their squad which is going to participate in their upcoming AFC Cup campaign. The Blues face Maldivian side Club Eagles on 15th August for a place in the Group stages of AFC’s second tier competition this year.
Sunil Chhetri-led Bengaluru earlier won comfortably by a 5-0 margin against Nepal Army in the second preliminary round on 14th April. However, the 2016 AFC Cup finalists are keen on fielding a much stronger starting 11 in their quest for continental glory.
Head coach Marco Pezzaiuoli has been doing a good job at the Indian Super League giants this season. Will the Karnataka side finish on top in the competition once again?
Bengaluru FC have a good squad although midfield lacks quality
Bengaluru FC had a disappointing performance in the ISL last season and as a result, Juan Cuadrat was sacked. They finished at 7th place with five wins, seven draws and eight losses.
However, new gaffer Pezzaiuoli has made significant changes and have made some new exciting signings. The 29-member squad consists of seven new signings and Cleiton Silva, Yrondu Musavu-King and Alan Costa as the foreigners.
New recruits Danish Farooq, Rohit Kumar, Harmanpreet Singh, Sarthak Golui as well as Bidyashagar Singh would be keen on making an impact. However, the midfield section lacks experience and the absence of Erik Paartalu would be a major exclusion.
Earlier, the Blues were made to reschedule their matches due to the uncertainty about the pandemic in Maldives. But now, it would be an important match for BFC and a win could cheer up their fans for a wonderful Independence day!
A win would take them to Group D where they will meet fellow Indian club ATK Mohun Bagan. The group also includes Bangladesh champions Bashundhara Kings and Champions from Maldives, Maziya.
