Debjit Majumder wants to play for East Bengal but anxious over the club’s dispute with investors

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

The 33-year-old Indian goalkeeper Debjit had a decent season with East Bengal SC, despite East Bengal’s tragic performance in the Indian Super League 20-21.

Debjit Majumder returned to I-League after a gap of 1-year as he represented East Bengal SC in the ISL. Majumdar has played for Atletico De Kolkata in ISL during the 18-19 season. Last year Majumdar was sent on loan to Kibu Vicuna’s Mohun Bagan FC but Majumder was out of luck there, as he didn’t get much game time and warmed the bench for most of the season.

Arindam Bhattacharya and Dheeraj Singh are already there for Mohun Bagan this season so it was highly Doubtable that Debjit would ever get a chance in the playin XI or not. So Debjit chose to play for Mohun Bagan’s arch rivals East Bengal for more game time.

Debjit has played 15 out of 20 games where he has conceded 20 goals, saved 50 shots and kept 2 clean sheets also. Debjit on a a personal level had a good season but the team couldn’t perform any better so they failed to achieve their goals and objective this season.

Majumder joined East Bengal after almost a decade. So, it was an emotional comeback for the veteran. “The last time I played for East Bengal was back in 2011 so it was 10 years back. It is an honor to play for East Bengal or Mohun Bagan. I know the legacy of the club. So at the beginning of the season when the offer came to join East Bengal, I didn’t think twice,” said Debjit in his statement.

Reason behind Debjit Majumder’s being anxious

As per the club’s terms, East Bengal had entered into a joint contract with Shree cement limited in September 2020. Where the investor had 76 percent of the stake and an initial term sheet was signed. As per the contract, the club has transferred all of their sporting rights as well as all property of the club to the investors.

But, the club haven’t signed the final agreement because the club officials claimed that the contract differ from what was decided in the first term sheet. Majumdar stated that he is very anxious about what is going to happen next and his future with the club. Because of the on going tension between the club and Shree cement limited.

Majumder further stated that he wants to stay at the club but the dispute between club and investor is making him anxious and concerned about his future. Keeping in mind that have also got many offers from other teams in the League.
