Edwin Sydney Vanspaul extends his stay with Chennaiyin FC

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Indian Super League side Chennaiyin FC announced on Thursday, the extension of Tamil Nadu’s 28-year-old midfielder Edwin Sydney Vanspaul.

Sydney grew up watching his Father play one or another game daily, but Football attracted him the most. So Edwin started playing in 5th grade. Edwin got his first chance to play at a professional level when he was at Loyola College, Chennai. He used to train with Chennai Football Association(CFA) senior division team and soon they signed him for the CFA senior division league.

Edwin made his debut with Indian Bank in CFA senior division in 2010 where he initially played as the striker. Scoring 3 goals in 28 appearances. Then Sydney played for Chennai FC for a season as a central midfield where he made 22 appearances scoring 6 goals. After that Edwin joined Chennai City in 2016, playing as a winger and scoring 8 goals in 22 matches, and after 3 seasons with Chennai City Edwin made his final move to Chennaiyin FC.

Edwin joined Chennaiyin FC ahead of the 2019-20 ISL campaign. Edwin played in the defense as well as in midfield for Chennaiyin in his debut season. He had a great partnership and synchronization with Anirudh and Rafael in Chennayin’s crucial championship run. Despite not getting enough chances in the 2020-21 season. Edwin was still dependable and performed every time he had a chance.

Edwin pledges to give his 2005 percent for Chennaiyin

The Neyveli-born provided 2 assists in 14 matches but sadly Chennaiyin finished 8th at the table. But Vanspaul should be proud of what he has gained in his career at Chennaiyin so far. it is a great opportunity for him to keep continuing to play for a team that has won ISL twice. Vanspaul’s primary target now is to improve more and deliver more.

“I wish to give my 200% at all times for the club. We need to bounce back and have a solid season next time around. Need to improve on the disappointments of last season and give our fans ample reason to cheer, hopefully in front of them in the stands, fingers crossed,” said Vanspaul.
