Utsav Parekh’s comments on the 100-year-old club Mohun Bagan did hurt the sentiments of the Mariners. The club hence did ask for a public apology from the official.
The club will make a decision on Utsav Parekh. Through a social media post, the club says that the words from the official are not something that they look forward to.
Utsav Parekh while speaking to the media, did say that Club uses the help of the name ATK. As a result, they are able to play in the AFC cup else they would not have been able to play.
The official did rage at the fans because these statements are an insult to the legacy of the Mariners. The Maroon and Greens have brought in a lot of honour for the nation. So such a statement was sure to enrage the fans.
Seeing the depth of the situation the officials of the club did not hesitate from taking any step towards action against Utsav Parekh’s comment. Spilling the truth, ATK was eventually able to play in the AFC Cup only because Mohun Bagan was able to secure it. Mohun Bagan’s the I-League 2019-20 win just before the merging of the teams. As a result, ATK Mohun Bagan plays in the tournament. Subsequently, the spot which did belong to ATK did go to Bengaluru FC who did play round-off.

Mohun Bagan is the National Club of India. They have represented India in the AFC Cup a lot of times. The Maroon and Greens did play in the tournament in the years 2007, 2009, 2016, and 2017.
Earlier they did represent India in the Asian Cup Winners’ Cup which is known as the AFC Cup now. They were also present in the main stages of the Asian Champions League which was then known as the Asian Club Championship. Playing in the years1987, 1988, 1994, 1995, and 1999. Later the ACL did play in accordance with a new format where Mohun Bagan did appear for the qualifying rounds twice in 2002 and 2016 respectively. Mariners is the only Indian Team to win in the ACL by defeating Tampines Rovers in 2016 in qualifier rounds.
