Odisha FC extends contract with Jerry Mawihmingthanga

Indian Super League side Odisha FC has reached an agreement with Jerry Mawihmingthanga for a long-term contract extension.

Born in Mizoram, Mawihmingthana started his career with DSK Shivajians Academy. In 2016 Jerry along with teammate Chhangte, went to train with Liverpool in England. After that Mawihmingthangawent on playing for Northeast United FC. However, he played only one match for Northeast United before returning to DSK Shivajians.

Jerry joined Jamshedpur FC in 2017 where played 28 matches and also scored 1 goal for them. His first goal in Indian Super League came in a 2-1 victory against Kerala Blasters. He managed to score in just 22 seconds which went on to become the fastest goal in ISL’s history.

The 24-year-old Winger have 5 assists from 17 matches. which is the maximum number of assists by an Indian in the previous season of ISL. In addition to that Jerry have also scored two goals. Jerry have played two seasons for Odisha. In 34 matches Jerry have scored 4 goals and 10 assists in total. Jerry have also bagged the FPAI player of the year award in the 2019-20 season as well.

Mawihmingthanga currently is very happy and wants to continue playing with Odisha FC. According to Jerry he have enjoyed playing with Odisha and is looking forward to to do the same in upcoming days. He is thankful to the club and the management for their continuous support. And Jerry pledged to make the fans proud with his performances.

Odisha FC’s board happy with Jerry’s stay

Speaking on the development of Jerry, Odisha FC CEO Rohan Sharma said.“I honestly can’t put into words how happy I am Jerry is staying at the club. Since he’s arrived at the club he’s been an outstanding player and lights up the room whenever he’s around. I know family is very important to Jerry and my goal is for Odisha FC to keep being his home away from home until the day he retires from football after winning many trophies for both the club and the national team. I would like to thank Jerry and the Mawihmingthanga family for the constant support.”

Hopes would be high for Jerry and Odisha FC also after the disappointing 2020-21 campaign. And according to the sources, there would be more exciting announcements by Odisha FC’s board.
