Odisha FC is in the chase for striker Jeje Lalpekhlua

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

After returning from a  lengthy injury, it seems like Jeje still got it as his market value is still appealing. The Mizo sniper who turned out for SC East Bengal in the ISL last season has attracted interest from at least three different clubs in this summer window, one of them being Odisha FC as per our sources.

The Bhubaneshwar-based club has reached out to the player’s representatives and expressed their interest in Jeje and it is not just a passing interest.

Last season was particularly disappointing for the Juggernauts. They finished last in the league table and despite the heroics of Diego Mauricio, were one of the low-scoring sides in the ISL. With just two wins from 20 games, it was a disastrous season for the club.

Jeje’s performance in previous matches

Jeje has ample experience in the ISL with Chennaiyin FC, having scored 23 times for the club. He was part of Chennaiyin’s victorious campaign in 2015. He was also named the Emerging Player of the ISL that season with six terrific goals under his name. The very same year he won the I-league trophy with Mohun Bagan.

He doubled up his ISL tally with Chennaiyin FC once again in the 2017-18 season. For the national side, Jeje holds an impressive record of finding the net on 23 occasions. His combination with Sunil Chhetri has been one of Blue Tiger’s most lethal duos.

In 2019 February, Jeje had suffered a ligament tear on his knee, after aggravating an old injury, for which he underwent surgery. Following the surgery, he took one full season to recover at Chennaiyin FC.

The management feels the need to add another Indian forward at the moment, someone to compete with Daniel Lalhlimpuia and Jeje fits the bill perfectly for Odisha FC.
