About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Odisha FC is set to sign left-back Sahil Panwar from Hyderabad FC. The Indian Super League outfit has been recruiting youngsters since the past season. With Panwar on board, they will have yet another talent in their ranks. He will sign a 2 years contract. The Juggernauts are confident of his talent and have decided to show faith in his abilities.

Is Sahil Panwar a good catch?

Born in Dehradun, Panwar was spotted by Pune FC Academy. However, The 21-year-old defender rose through the ranks at the now-disbanded Pune FC during his youth years. Later, the defender shifted to Hyderabad FC and continued as coach Phil Brown’s trusted man in defense in the club’s debut season in 2019. Nevertheless, Sahil Panwar was robust in the backline, making 40 tackles and 61 clearances in 12 appearances.

In the previous season, Hyderabad FC coach Manolo Marquez showed his faith with the in-form Akash Mishra, who had a splendid campaign. Unfortunately, that also meant Sahil Panwar fell down the pecking order. Panwar signed with Odisha FC in hope of getting more game time. Panwar’s signing is well in line with the club’s mission of giving young stars a chance and it would be fascinating to see how they move pans out for both.

Among the 11 teams in ISL last season, Odisha Fc has the lowest average age at 23.4. After signing a host of young Indian players in the transfer window, the club has seemingly made the call to trust Indian youngsters and experienced foreigners. It is a strategy that is a high risk but could come with high rewards too in the long term. With a very disappointing performance of Odisha in the Indian Super League, new talent might help it gain its spirit back.

Proper pre-season practice might help the young players to get back on track. Every season is different, with Panwar’s entry into the OFC family the defense might become stronger. It all depends on the hard work the players put in for the revenge of a bad season.
