Rahim Ali extends his contract with Chennaiyin FC

The 20-year-old striker from Barrackpore, Kolkata extends his contract with the Indian Super League side Chennaiyin FC Confirmed by IFTWC. He has been a part of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017.

Rahim’s favorite footballers are Sunil Chhetri and Cristiano Ronaldo, which shows his passion for dribbling and making runs down the left flank. Rahim’s favorite teams are Mohun Bagan from the Indian Super League, and the Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Chennaiyin had a disappointing season finishing 8th in the 11 team league. A lot of drama happened as Chennaiyin failed to deliver, Rahim also had a disappointing season with being able to start in 6 matches only. Rahim made 16 appearances under Csaba playing as a winger and scoring 2 goals out of the fixtures.

Rahim’s contract was already due to expire and other teams were interested in him too. Rumors ramped up that he could leave Chennaiyin. But it is almost confirmed now that Rahim will extend his contract with Chennaiyin.

Rahim’s journey into professional football

Born in Barrackpore, West Bengal Ali have been part of the AIFF Elite Academy Batch that have been preparing for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Coach De Matos from the U-17 World Cup team has also praised him for his ability to shoot from anywhere and his dominance in physicality. Right after the tournament, Ali got a chance to play for Indian Arrows, which he accepted. It is the team that is under the All India Football Federation. The team consists of U-20 players to give them playing time.

Ali made his professional debut for Indian Arrows in the first match of the league against Chennai City. He came on 73rd minute as the substitute for Rahul Parveen. Indian Arrows won the match by 3-0.

Ali have played 2 seasons for Indian Arrows in the I-League and 2 seasons for Chennai City in the Indian Super League. In the 4 seasons of professional football, Rahim has played 53 matches scoring 3 goals. However, the stats do not justify his potential on the field.
