About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

The rumors of Sumit Rathi leaving ATK Mohun Bagan have been brushed away at least for this season. Sumit will be staying for another year with ATK Mohun Bagan.

According to the sources, Mohun Bagan have turned down all the offers from FC Goa, Hyderabad FC, and Odisha And Sumit won’t leave until and unless things change drastically.

It is being said, that the main reason behind this is Indian Super League’s new 4 foreigner rule set. So every team would want to have a solid set of Indian players on whom the team can rely. That’s why offers for Rathi have been turned down.

Story of Sumit Rathi’s transfer

Sumit was born in Muzaffarnagar city, Uttar Pradesh in 2001. He began his footballing journey with Elite Academy after that he got selected to play for Indian Arrows to play in the Hero I-League. Rathi then took a big leap by joining the most successful club in I-League’s history Atletico de Kolkata(ATK). After an impressive display with the reserve team, Sumit got promoted to play for the senior team, where he also won the “emerging player of the season” award in his breakthrough season.

But when ATK and merged with Mohun Bagan to form ATK Mohun Bagan, that’s when the problems started with Sumit. Due to to the availability of world-class experienced defenders. Sumit’s game time marginally decreased and Rathi only made 6 appearances in ISL’s 2020-21 season. So Sumit understood it’s the correct time to move on.

As per the rumors as soon as the words were out of Sumit wanting to leave. Hyderabad FC, Odisha FC, and FC Goa all these teams have bid for Mohun Bagan’s young prospect Sumit. Even Mumbai City have also approached Mohun Bagan with a loan offer for Sumit but got straight away rejected.

Reports are also confirming that head coach Antonio Habas also wants Sumit to stay.
