Jamshedpur FC defeated Sudeva Delhi FC 1-0 in Durand Cup. Lalruatmawia was the lone goalscorer of the match and a rock-solid defensive performance ensured the victory.

In another match, FC Goa claimed a 2-0 win over Army Green. As a result, the Miners are now placed second in Group B after the narrow victory. Although it was a decent performance from the attackers, defenders deserve credit after picking up a clean sheet.

Jamshedpur fielded a team mostly comprising of talented reserve players and did put up a thrilling performance against the I-League side. They will face Army Green in their next match on 10th September. Whereas, Sudeva Delhi FC will now play against leaders FC Goa on 13th September.

Jamshedpur ease past Sudeva Delhi in a thrilling encounter in Durand Cup

Sudeva Delhi FC were the ones who were looking more dangerous but the superb defensive display from Jamshedpur was enough to stall their attacks. It was an evenly contested encounter with both sides pushing up for the first goal.

However, the Indian Super League side Jamshedpur found the breakthrough after a superb effort by one of their graduates Lalruatmawia. The Sudeva FC defenders failed to notice a through ball from the opponents which ultimately resulted in the winning goal.

The I-League giants representing Delhi wasted a lot of opportunities in the beginning stages of the match. Additionally, Subho Paul missed a penalty after an excellent save from Jamshedpur custodian Vishal Yadav. The Bayern Munich U-19 World Squad player made the wrong decision and the goalie made the right move.

Yadav was awarded the Man of the Match award after a brilliant performance guarding the goalposts. After his ecstatic performance, he said,

“This is the biggest tournament that we have been a part of post-pandemic this year. We are happy to have a win and a clean sheet. We hope to carry the same intensity forward in our upcoming games.”

On the other hand, the second half was a much more physical contest as goalscorer Lalruatmawia left the field with an injury towards the end. However, the match also had some amount of bookings and it was a great contest towards the very final minute.

All eyes would be on the all-ISL heavyweight clash between Jamshedpur FC and FC Goa which would decide the winners of the “Group of Death”.
