Jose Mourinho talks highly on Raphael Varane

Raphael Varane - Manchester United

Jose Mourinho has labelled Raphael Varane the one who achieved the most of all the players who made their breakthrough under the three-time Premier League-winning manager.

Varane out of many

When Sky Italia posed that question to Mourinho, he had plenty of choices.
The former Old Trafford manager had the choice of players like Arjen Robben, John Obi Mikel, or Fabio Carvalho. Three who, while working at Chelsea, rose to national prominence. Or, maybe, Alvaro Morata or Nacho, who rose to prominence at Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho.

Raphael Varane’s trophy collection, however, speaks much about the legendary head coach. Varane, a seasoned veteran at Manchester United now, joined Mourinho’s Los Blancos team from Lens more than ten years ago as a teenager. Since then, he has won nearly everything in European and international football.

Jose Mourinho Statement

Varane has accomplished everything, says Mourinho. “He was the captain of France until he retired from playing, and he won three Champions Leagues.”

“He is the one who reached the highest level of achievement.”

Varane is still just thirty years old, so he has plenty of energy left, even if it looks like he will be leaving Manchester United in the future. As a result of Erik ten Hag’s predilection for centre halves who can both initiate and stop attacks, Varane looks to be heading into irrelevance at Old Trafford, trailing the Red Devils’ in-form Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Jonny Evans. Jose Mourinho still praises him.

Interest

According to reports, many Saudi Arabian teams, including Bayern Munich, are interested. Even Jose Mourinho Roma.

But will Varane’s comeback to Lens complete the circle of his silver-coated career? Given the magnitude of his salary, that seems improbable, but Lens manager Franck Haise would undoubtedly jump at the chance to save one of the most renowned defenders of the modern period from a bench seat at United.

Via Calciomercato, Haise grinned, “If Varane wants to come back, we will welcome him with open arms.”

Perhaps, though, he want to return. I’m not sure. Who knows? But it is not a discussion that has to be had right now.

Jose Mourinho would him at Roma too.
