In 2021, Neymar is still waiting for his Ballon d’Or. The qualification of PSG in the semi-finals of the Champions League had given hope to Neymar to win it for this season. Unfortunately for him, his team did not know how to concretize and lost at the doors of the final. Besides, Neymar has been promised a huge bonus if he wins the Champions League.

During the match at the Parc des Princes against Bayern Munich on April 14, Neymar shined. Despite the defeat (0-1), the Brazilian reminded everyone why he is one of the best players in the world. According to some experts of the football world, Neymar could claim the award this year.

The 2020 edition had been canceled because of the COVID-19. In 2019, it was Lionel Messi who won the award. However, the latest defeats of PSG do not play in his favor, including the defeat against Manchester City in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

2021 may not be the year of the Ballon d’Or for Neymar :

For the 2021 Golden Ball, Neymar will most likely be competing with his friend and teammate, Kylian Mbappé. One could argue that Neymar is the best player today who has still never won a single Golden Ball award. However, injuries have affected his attempts to win the honor this year.

“Neymar is still thinking about the Ballon d’Or but Mbappé’s stats are better than his, it’s true. He knows he has to play every game until the end of the season. He has to be at his best in Copa America. “— Isabela Pagliari, Brazilian journalist.

Kaka is a former Brazilian footballer who played as an attacking midfielder between 2000 and 2010. He spoke a few days ago about Neymar and the Ballon d’Or. Kaka has already won the Ballon d’Or in 2007.

“I’m even happy because today the award for the best individual player in the world is linked to collective awards. I think it’s very good because it’s a collective sport. You can’t win anything alone. What Ney needs, to win the award, is a collective achievement with him as the protagonist.” — Kaka, former Brazilian player.
