Kalidou Koulibaly has confirmed he is in discussions with Paris Saint-Germain over a move during the summer window. The Napoli center-back has been on the radar of the Parisians for the past couple of seasons. PSG were out in the transfer market last summer to add more depth into their back 4. They consider Koulibaly as a suitable option to bolster their defense with his vast experience and aggression.
Paris Saint-Germain still have mouthwatering players in their squad. As for their defense, they did not replace Thiago Silva by signing a defender on a long-term deal. However, they signed Sergio Ramos for free last summer, but he is yet to play a game for the Ligue 1 giants. The French giants have reignited their interest in Kalidou Koulibaly once again and Koulibaly also confirmed that he sat down with PSG sporting director Leonardo.
Meanwhile, reports are suggesting that PSG have agreed on personal terms with Zinedine Zidane to become their next head coach. Mauricio Pochetinno is being heavily linked with a managerial take over at Manchester United later this summer.
PSG have remained persistent and focused on winning the UEFA Champions League every season. The Parisians bought three UCL winners in the form of Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, and Gini Wijnaldum for free last summer. Their chances of winning the coveted trophy will increase if Zidane takes over at Parc des Princes.
Kalidou Koulibaly confirms PSG rumors and says a few more clubs have contacted him for a potential move
“It’s true I had discussions with everyone. There were a lot of clubs interested. There was PSG, but there were also other clubs. Don’t really like to talk about it it’s something I try to kick in a lot of times. There was interest it makes me happy, it proves that my work pays, that people see the things that I do well. It pushes me to do even better.”Koulibaly said while speaking to Canal FC
“PSG wanted me before taking Ramos? It makes me happy to be quoted next to these names. Ramos is an idol for everyone. There were offers, Naples decided to keep me. It also proves the love they have for me.”
PSG might feel unlucky for the way the last two seasons have gone for them. They reached the finals of the UCL in 2019/20 but suffered a narrow defeat against Bayern Munchen by 1-0. After hiring the services of Pochetinno, they reached the semi-finals of the UCL last season but PSG endured defeats on both legs against Manchester City.
PSG fired Thomas Tuchel later that year and he was hired by Chelsea during the beginning of 2021. Tuchel reunited with Thiago Silva who also joined the Blues in 2020 for free. Both of them won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea after failing to win it with PSG during the 2019/20 season.
Meanwhile, Kalidou Koulibaly remains a key figure for Napoli as they fight for the Scudetto. The 30-year-old has made 19 appearances with the Serie A side, scoring two goals and registering two assists this season.
