Ligue 1: The title race continues with big wins for Lille and Lyons

This Saturday, May 9, Lyon faced Lorient and Nantes played against Bordeaux on the 36th day of Ligue 1. Lyon won with three goals difference against Lorient (4-1). On the other side, it was Nantes who outperformed Bordeaux at home (3-0). Lille win big to go 4 points clear at the top, Lyon record a big win to challenge for the title. The title race continues.

Lille are first with 79 points and 4 wins in the last 5 games. Lille beat PSG, Metz, Lyon, Nice, Monaco Lens and finished tied with Montpellier.

Paris Saint-Germain are second in the ranking following closely Lille with 75 points. The Parisian team beat Lyon, Strasbourg, Saint-Etienne, Metz, and Lens but lost against Lille. 

Monaco are third in the ranking with 74 points. Monaco have surpassed Metz, Bordeaux and Angers.

Lens 0-3 Lille, Ligue 1 match report : 

This Friday took place the match Lens-Lille on the 36th day. Lens has not won any of its last 11 games against Lille. The coach of Lens, Franck Haise opted for a 5-3-2 formation. On the side of Lille, Christophe Galtier opted for a more classic formation in 4-4-2. 

The first goal of the game came very quickly. In the 4th minute, the striker Burak Yilmaz made the score take off for Lille. Then, the cards flew in the first half. The defender of Lens Clément Michelin gets the first yellow card at the 29th minute. 5 minutes later, the defender is whistled for a red card. On the Lille side, it’s the midfielder Luis Araùjo who gets his first yellow card at the 39th minute. 

But Burak Yilmaz did not stop there. Five minutes before the end of the first half he allowed his team to extend the lead with a second goal. The striker could count on the decisive pass of Boubakary Soumaré. The first half ended with Lens 0-3 Lille. At the end of the first half, Lens totally faded away on the field. Even Lens was not spectacular the 15 after halftime. But that was without counting on Jonathan David’s goal. After this goal, Lens had no chance to win. The title race continues.

Lyon 4-1 Lorient Match report : 

As for Lorient, the club has not won any of its last 13 journeys in Ligue 1. On the side of Lyon, the team has won only two of its last nine Ligue 1 matches against Lorient after having won 6 of the previous 8. Rudi Garcia opted for a 4-3-3 formation for the Lyon team. Christophe Pélissier preferred to set up a 5-3-2 formation. 

In the framework of the 36th day of Ligue 1, Olympique Lyonnais met Lorient at Groupama Stadium. OL won against its opponent, with a score of 4 to 1. Bruno Guimaraes made the opponent’s defense suffer, as he finished the game with a double. Garcia’s team started the match in 4-2-3-1 with Kadewere at the top, facing the 5-3-2 with Breton defensive vocation of Pélissier.

The first half went by without a goal. Lyon opened the score at the 53rd by Aouar. Then, OL saw their lead in the score increase, thanks to Lucas Paqueta in the 65th. On penalty, Bruno Guimarães scored the third goal of the game after a foul.He did not stop there by scoring again in the 77th. Finally, the last goal was scored for Lorient by Monconduit in the 83rd.

The ranking changes following this victory of OL. By gaining one place, the club is ahead of Monaco and positioned at the 3rd position. At the 17th position of Ligue 1, Lorient will have to watch out for FC Nantes in order not to lose their place as first non-league.
