Despite a good start, Lyon collapsed against Lille. With that, their hopes of winning the Ligue 1 title, or even qualification for the Champions League is under duress.

Lyon has not won any of its last eight games against Lille in Ligue 1. On the other hand, Lille has lost only one of the last 15 games in Ligue 1. This Sunday, the match was starting well for Lyon.

In the 20th minute, Islam Slimani scored the match’s first goal thanks to the decisive pass from Caqueret. Everything went very fast because 15 minutes later another goal was scored for Lyon. This time, José Fonte from Lille scored a goal against his own side.

Burak Yılmaz scored the first goal for Lille. Then in the 60th minute, Jonathan David equalized the score 2-2. Lyon then did their best to at least get a draw. However, Burak Yılmaz had other plans. The Lille player scored a goal in the 85th minute. The match ended 2-3 in Lille’s favour.

Will the loss against Lille be disastrous for Lyon

This competition had great stakes for Lyon. However, after their defeat, they left disappointed and worried about their future in the Ligue 1 championship.

“We don’t have the right to get caught up like that against a direct competitor. It’s frustrating. It’s not normal”– Maxence Caqueret, Lyon striker.

With four days left in the Ligue 1 championship, it may be too late for Lyon. They are five points behind PSG, and four behind Monaco. The minimum expectation of the club was the third place in the Ligue 1 championship, but it is more and more out of reach. All the hopes of the team are based on the meeting with Monaco next week.

For their part, the Lille team is delighted with this victory, as they have won several times so far and this additional victory allows them to remain in the top of the ranking.
