Lionel Messi club form diminishing as international friendly approaches

Exclusive to Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi has been going through a challenging period lately. Despite the thrill of winning his first World Cup with Argentina, the talented footballer is facing some difficulties at Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi’s performance has been lackluster in club football since his late free-kick goal against Lille. He had a few sporadic moments of brilliance, but overall, he hasn’t been his usual self. During PSG’s Champions League last-16 tie against Bayern Munich, which they lost 3-0, Messi’s contribution was almost non-existent.

Due to his underwhelming performance, the club’s supporters actually booed the 35-year-old during their unexpected 2-0 defeat to Rennes last Sunday.

Current Premier League Standings

It would be unacceptable to criticize Lionel Messi in Argentina these days. Especially after his phenomenal performance at the Qatar World Cup. The football icon scored an impressive seven goals during the tournament. Thus, leading to him receiving both the Golden Ball award and the trophy.

Lionel Messi in ecstasy after being swarmed by Argentine fans

Describing Messi as a hero in Argentina would be an understatement. In fact, he can’t even dine out in his home country without being swarmed by enthusiastic fans. Videos on social media have captured the frenzied scenes outside an Argentine restaurant where Messi and his family were eating. Despite being mobbed like a rock star when he left, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner seemed thrilled with the attention.

Before the final stretch of the 2022/23 club season, Argentina is ready to play two friendly matches.

The first match, against Panama, will take place on March 24th at Monumental. During this match, Lionel Messi and his team will showcase the World Cup trophy to a crowd of over 80,000 fans. In the second match, Argentina will face Curaçao on the 28th. This game presents a chance for Messi to increase his international goal tally, which currently stands at an impressive 98, the highest by any South American footballer.
