Liverpool are willing to pay the €70m release clause to acquire the services of Porto’s Luis Diaz. The Reds have been in touch with the forward over a move during the January transfer window. According to reports, Liverpool are close to agree on a deal for the Colombian by this month. Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Manchester United were also monitoring the situation of Diaz back in December.

The Reds are one of the clubs in the Premier League that will see their African players join their respective national teams in January. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have joined their national teams to take part in the 2022 AFCON Cup. Both of them have been vital for Liverpool since their arrival and they form a deadly attacking duo up front. The absence of Salah and Mane until February could affect Liverpool’s performances in the PL.

The Reds manager Jurgen Klopp knows the depth of this situation very well. Therefore, he is looking to bring at least one attacker this month who can pair with Diogo Jota upfront. Luis Diaz is having a sensational season with Porto which has caught the attention of a few English clubs. However, Liverpool are reportedly the front-runners to land the Colombian at Anfield.

Deal between Liverpool and Luis Diaz is almost done according to reports

Various outlets have confirmed that Luis Diaz could be on his way to England very soon. The Reds are ready to pay his release clause alongside add-ons. Liverpool have been following the progress of the 24-year-old for quite some time now. Jurgen Klopp had a closer look at Diaz twice during this season’s UEFA Champions League group stages.

However, Porto suffered defeats on both occasions but Diaz registered 3 shots on target and 3 key passes as well. Reports have suggested that Klopp can wait until the summer to land the Colombian into his team but AFCON absentees and the Covid-19 outbreak in their team might force the German manager to sign Diaz later this month.

Meanwhile, former England goal-keeper Paul Robinson also shared his thoughts about liverpool’s interest on luis diaz:

“You have got to freshen your team up but you do not do that by sacrificing two of your best players.”

said Paul robinson to Football insider

“We have seen Liverpool do that before with Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho. Liverpool fans were devastated when Coutinho left. They went on to rejuvenate their squad and be better for it so there is a case for moving players on.”

he added

“However, Mane and Firmino are such an integral part of that team, I think they’d be almost impossible to replace. I watched Mane in person against Leicester and even though it was a poor performance, he was still impressive. He is always a threat.”

Reports have also suggested that the Merseyside are not only willing to pay his release clause of €70 million, but they will add €10 Million in bonuses attainable by the Colombian. The deal is said to be underway after Mane and Salah left for the Africa Cup of Nations. Other reports have claimed that senior Liverpool officials think that Luis Diaz is not in their plans for January.
