Liverpool keeping tabs on the status of Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen

Liverpool staff is closely monitoring the happenings at the Spanish powerhouse, Real Madrid. Meanwhile, the two clubs have crossed paths multiple times in recent years. And hence on each occasion, Real Madrid has emerged victorious.

The two clubs also engaged in a head-to-head battle for Jude Bellingham, with Real Madrid prevailing in that pursuit as well. Consequently, it might be reasonable to assume that Liverpool would prefer to avoid dealing with Madrid. However, according to The Independent’s ‘Reading The Game’ newsletter, that doesn’t appear to be the situation.

Rather than steering clear of Real Madrid, Liverpool is purportedly closely monitoring Los Blancos. That is to gauge whether they have any plans involving Bayer Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso. Alonso has been achieving considerable success at Leverkusen. Hence, a switch to Real Madrid this coming summer is increasingly viewed as an “inevitability” by insiders at the Bernabeu.

Liverpool may not be actively seeking a replacement for Jurgen Klopp. However, Alonso is reportedly already being a potential successor to the German manager. Consequently, there are reports that “some at Liverpool” are keeping a watchful eye on the developments between their former midfielder and Real Madrid.

Liverpool thinking of replacing Klopp with Alonso?

As indicated in the report, it seems increasingly likely that Alonso will make the move to Real Madrid during the upcoming summer. The 41-year-old manager has clearly demonstrated exceptional talent. Hence, he is in a position to potentially secure silverware with Leverkusen in the current season.

Klopp’s contract still has three years remaining, and there’s even the possibility of him signing an extension. Liverpool has no immediate need to concern themselves with this matter. Over the next few years, it’s impossible to predict what Xabi Alonso’s career trajectory might be. He could have joined Real Madrid and risen to become one of the world’s top coaches, or he may have returned to Spain and encountered challenges. The future remains uncertain.

In the interim, it makes sense for Liverpool to stay informed about Alonso’s career progress and evolution. It’s evident that he has some unfulfilled objectives at Anfield, and his affection for the club is unmistakable. When the appropriate moment arises, many believe that Xabi will eventually return home. However, it’s unlikely to happen in the upcoming summer.
