Liverpool move ahead of Arsenal for the signature of Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria. The Reds have reportedly joined a number of Premier League clubs in pursuit of the Swiss midfielder. The Merseyside are currently experiencing a great run of form in all competitions this season. Liverpool have the best goal difference in the Premier League right now and they have also proceeded to the next round of the UEFA Champions League.
The English outfit has only lost one game in the PL this season against West Ham United by 2-0. Another positive for Jurgen Klopp’s side is that they were undefeated during the UCL Group stages. Liverpool are playing like a top team and they have become an unstoppable force in England and all over Europe. Their form is a highlight for any player to make a move to Anfield and Zakaria is now on the Merseyside’s radar.
Reports in the past suggested that Manchester United are edging close towards signing Denis Zakaria. Ralf Ragnick’s side reportedly had opened talks with Zakaria for a potential transfer move to Old Trafford in 2022. Meanwhile, the Swiss international has been a key figure for his club this season in the Bundesliga. He has appeared 10 times for Monchengladbach this term with two goals and one assist to his name.

Liverpool are now ready to challenge other English clubs to register the 24-year-old’s signature. While Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the Swiss midfielder as they will look to add some more quality to their Squad. They had a poor start to their season, but the Gunners are back in the top four after an impressive turnaround. Mikel Arteta’s side are slowly finding their form back and they will hope to end the season with a direct qualification to the UCL group stages.
Meanwhile, there is no agreement between Zakaria and Monchengladbach over a new contract as of now. The Swiss will be seeking a move away from Borussia Park at the end of his contract. According to reports, Liverpool are the front runners to sign Zakaria next year.
Sport Bild has claimed that Borussia Monchengladbach could sell Denis Zakaria for around £7m in January. However, with his contract expiring at the end of this season, Zakaria could arrive at Anfield for free as well. Liverpool have been linked with midfield reinforcements since Georginio Wijnaldum left the club last summer.
Denis Zakaria has made 143 appearances for Gladbach since joining the club in 2017. He has scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in that time.
