The latest Liverpool transfer gossip emerged from around the world as Barcelona teenager Pedri is linked with a £70m transfer.

According to Daily Mirror, Liverpool has approached the representatives of Barcelona teenager Pedri and offered a transfer ahead of the summer window. Although Barcelona is desperate to keep the star teenager at the club.

Barcelona bought the teenager from Las Palmas to support the transition of the Koeman side with more young stars. Since his joining Pedri has been a key man for Barcelona with 43 appearances in his breakout campaign, helping the team with his playmaking ability from the midfield. He recently also made an appearance for the Spanish national.

Liverpool is currently going through a bad season. They are out of the Champions League and currently sit at 6th position in the Premier League. They are currently fighting for the top four spots in the table.

Liverpool can benefit from Pedri

Liverpool’s midfield has been a great concern for Jurgen Klopp as his main signing this season from Bayern Munich Thiago Alcantara has been struggling. He has mainly been a bench warmer rather than making his name in the first team.

Gini Wijnaldum is also on his way out of Merseyside in the summer. He has been one of the most utilized players, featuring in 44 games for Liverpool so far this season. In absence of Virgil van Dijk he also played a much more defensive role.

Jurgen Klopp needs to rebuild his midfield in the upcoming summer transfer window. As a result of that, he has shown a keen interest to sign the Pedri. He has a lot to offer through his passing, his positioning, and his decision-making. He could add some serious competition for Thiago and Fabinho in the team.

A player of Pedri’s quality will undoubtedly be the right choice for Klopp if he can get the best out of him. Pedri’s release clause currently stands at £70m. His current deal does not expire until June 2022.

However, the report suggests, after Liverpool’s interest in Pedri, Barcelona is likely to open talks over a new contract. This would take his release clause up to £350m, basically ruling him out of any transfer talks.

With all the interest of Liverpool to sign the teenager, it would not be easy for them to convince Barcelona. Pedri has been an important player for the team and they would not let him go without a fight. But if he is keen on a move to Anfield anytime soon, he can surely put Liverpool on notice by rejecting Barcelona’s new offer.
