Liverpool To Negotiate Origi With Schalke To Sign Ozan Kabak

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Liverpool are looking to solve their defense problems by signing Ozan Kabak from Schalke in the January transfer window.

The Anfield giants are light at the back following long-term injuries to centre-back duo Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, while Joel Matip has also struggled to remain fit on a consistent basis in the Premier League of 2020-21.

The 20-year-old Turkish international is regarded as one of the best centre-backs under the age of 23 in Europe holding a strategic performance for his team. He is believed to be linked with a price tag of £22million.

LIVERPOOL AND SCHALKE TO BE ON A RIVAL FOR OZAN

Kabak is known to be near their top of Liverpool’s list, although the Reds face a fight for the defender.

AC Milan and other suitors are interested in the young defender. He has made 26 league appearances for the German side last season, netting three goals.

The German side is open to selling Kabak for the right price, but they will ask for Belgian striker Divock Origi in part-exchange for an offer to arrive.

Schalke is currently bottom of the Bundesliga table following nine defeats and four draws in 13 games. They will land with a striker next month to change their fortunes.

The Reds have been suffering from the ongoing massive injury crisis in recent weeks, which has seen many of their senior players ruled out for lengthy periods.

The Reds need a fourth choice centre back given that Dejan Lovren has departed.

Bringing in Kabak who has plenty of first-team experience makes sense. Meanwhile, Origi, Reds hero after the Champions League win in 2019, is said to be looking for an exit.

The reports do add that Liverpool may struggle to persuade Origi to join a Schalke outfit fighting to avoid relegation. However, if they want to gain the upper hand in the race for Kaban then they may have no choice.

The Belgian International has also been linked with a move to Club Brugge and Royal Antwerp.
