Manchester United Forwards Lack the Quality Provided by Cavani – Pogba

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Manchester United are enjoying a pleasant fairytale journey as they are where they deserve to be after a long time. With every player playing an equal part, Paul Pogba was all praises for the Uruguayan striker, Edinson Cavani, although it came at the expense of his fellow forwards.

Manchester United had a very bad start to their season and was again expected to struggle to land a top-4 spot. But their mentality has resurrected them from the trench as they now sit at the top of the Premier League table.

Along with maintaining the podium, they have broken many records along the way. Manchester United are now undefeated away from home for a whole year. They were last defeated by Liverpool in January 2020. Their streak has been extended to 17 games after they defeated Fulham.

Another interesting statistic shows that United have collected the most Premier League points since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes. The Red Devils have played 19 games this season and collected 40 points. They are 2 points ahead of their rivals, Manchester City who have a game left in hand.

PAUL POGBA LAUDS EDINSON CAVANI:

Remember the signing United had made in 2016? Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was also praised by Pogba had joined the club on a 1-year deal which was further extended by 1 more. The main purpose of the arrival of the then 35-year-old was to provide the extra boost. Which he did. His presence was benefiting for the squad as his experience was pivotal.

The role played by Cavani is similar to the one played by Zlatan. Cavani joined United as a free agent in the summer window with a weekly wage of  £200,000. He has started only a few with most of his appearances coming off the bench.

He has only played a combined duration of around 600 minutes but has already got 7 goal involvements. Paul Pogba who has been in a brilliant form has praised Cavani’s presence on the pitch.

“Everybody knows that Edi is a top-class striker and there are few strikers like this in the world, and we had the chance to have one.

“We know the hardest goals are those goals. We have talented players – Anthony Martial, Rashy in front, even Mason, that they can shoot from outside and stuff – but they don’t have this, the experience of Edi, and they don’t have the same quality of Edi as well.”

Paul Pogba said on MUTV

Anthony Martial has been completely overshadowed by Cavani. The Frenchman had a decent season last year but saw another dip in form. If things don’t change for Martial, Cavani might soon take his place in the starting line-up.

Marcus Rashford has been the lead scorer among the strikers for United this season, but his finishing has been very worrying. Mason Greenwood equalled Wayne Rooney‘s record last season but has been struggling to find the back of the net so far.

What Pogba commented is not in any way targeting his teammates as what he said is simply a fact. Quality comes from experience, and experience comes when you have played enough games. Cavani has at least 10-years more experience as compared to his fellow forwards.
