Manchester United put 5 players on transfer market as manager starts clearing the deck

Manchester United

It has been reported that Manchester United will listen to offers for five stars in the January transfer window. This comes as Erik ten Hag plans another mini-revamp of the Manchester United first-team squad. It has been claimed that Raphael Varane, Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek have all been made available for a permanent transfer.

According to MEN, Varane, Casemiro, Martial, Sancho and Van de Beek could all be moved on. All five have struggled to work their way into Ten Hag’s plans of late for differing reasons.

Casemiro and Varane have dropped-off in form

Casemiro and Raphael Varane have both dropped-off in form this season. Both are nowhere near the levels at which they played for Real Madrid or even for Manchester United under Erik ten Hag last season. They were undroppable last season, and two of the most consistent players.

Varane especially has had a massive drop in form. Ten Hag seems to have completely lost faith in the Frenchman. He has prefered Jonny Evan and even Luke Shaw, who is naturally an attack-minded left-back, over him at center-back.

Casemiro on the other hand was still a starter until he got injured. However, he was just a shadow of himself from last season. The Brazilian is currently out until late December with a hamstring issue.

Sancho very likely to leave Manchester United after fall-out with Erik ten Hag

The other three players mentioned, Martial, Sancho and Van de Beek, never really cemented themselves in ten Hag’s plans. Martial was preferred over Ronaldo but was not able to make the number 9 position his own. Van de Beek’s time at the Old Trafford has been a complete disaster. No one knows what happened to him since joining Manchester United, but even Erik ten Hag, under whom he flourished at Ajax, didn’t find him good enough for Man United.

Jadon Sancho never became a regular starter either. And after his recent fall-out with the manager, he has not played and looks certain to leave the club in January.

Aside from these five players, Ten Hag may be open to selling other players as well but only as long as their departure doesn’t weaken the squad.
