Manipur, the reigning champion, is stunned by Railways; Bengal and Haryana score all points

Haryana defeated Himachal Pradesh 1-0 to win their third match in a row overall. On Tuesday, June 20, at the GNDU Main Ground in Amritsar, West Bengal defeated Maharashtra 5-0 in their Hero Senior Women’s National Football Championship 2022-23 Group B match.

Sangita Basfore, the team’s captain, scored the first goal in the 33rd minute to put the two-time national winners in front. Before the two teams entered the locker room, Rimpa Haldar scored another goal to make it 2-0. Bengal maintained their advantage and were poised to secure the full three points.

Ratna Halder scored Bengal’s third goal from the penalty spot in the 71st minute, but the game was far from finished. Dular Marandi, a replacement, then added two goals in the following six minutes to make it 5-0. Basfore was selected as the game’s MVP.

The victory, which was also their third in the tournament’s Final Round, put Bengal atop Group B standings, barely ahead of Haryana on goal differential.

Haryana pip Himachal

At the GNDU Main Ground, Haryana defeated Himachal Pradesh 1-0 to win their third match in a row overall. Aarti’s lone goal in the 72nd minute gave the joint Group B leaders the three points they needed.

The Himachal Pradesh defence failed to cover the midfielder at the far post as she tapped in Parmila’s enticing cross from the right side. Haryana recorded 35 tries, of which 10 were successful, and held the lead for the entirety of the game. Additionally, they controlled the ball for a staggering 69% of the game, demonstrating their dominance.

The prize for Player of the Match went to Aarti.

Railways surpass Manipur

In a thrilling 1-0 win, Railways defeated Manipur, the defending champions, at the Guru Nanak Stadium. The squad was able to revenge their loss in the event final the year before thanks to a goal by Manisa Panna in the first half.

Supriya Routroy, a defender for Railways, was chosen Player of the Match for her dependable effort in the back. With two victories and one defeat apiece however the victory puts both clubs’ point totals in Group B at equal.
