Mark Clattenburg Voices out on Destiny Udogie Tackle

Mark Clattenburg suggested that Tottenham defender Destiny Udogie was “lucky” to have avoided a direct red card for his tackle on Raheem Sterling.

London Derby

Monday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs fell 4-1 to Chelsea, their first Premier League loss of the current campaign.

During the match, Udogie and Cristian Romero were both dismissed. Despite receiving two yellow cards, Clatterburg believes that Udogie was fortunate to remain on the pitch throughout the first half.

He gave Sterling a crazy challenge in the first half, and when the Italy international attacked the same man early in the second half, Michael Oliver had no choice but to back down.

Destiny Udogie Tackle

Wrong choice. For two reasons, Destiny Udogie was fortunate. One, in order to avoid suffering a major injury, Raheem Sterling pushed his leg away. Secondly, Brooks neglected to inform Oliver that this challenge was deserving of a red. With his studs visible, Udogie led with his two feet while in the air. Football needs to forbid challenges of this nature, according to Clatterburg.
Five goals were not permitted in a wild contest. Spurs had a great start, but their defence began to unravel. The home team paid the price for the careless and pointless challenges made by players like Romero and Destiny.

Change in plan

Additionally, Postecoglou continued to play the high line after losing both players, which gave Chelsea’s attackers unrestricted access to the goal. After Nicolas Jackson scored a hat-trick, it is reasonable to wonder if that was the best course of action.

The injuries to Micky and James Maddison, who will both probably be out for some time, will worry Postecoglou.
