Arsenal are currently sitting on top of the table and look in good shape to go on and win the Premier League title. However, any Arsenal fan will tell you that things can still go south from this point.
Indeed, Arsenal know better than any other club that things can quickly go wrong in this situation. Their close call against Luton Town on Tuesday showed us just that.
Jesus could cost Arsenal the title
Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Mark Hughes was discussing Arsenal’s title chances. He suggested that the fact Gabriel Jesus isn’t prolific enough could end up costing the Gunners the title.
Hughes said: “You look at Arsenal and they don’t have a striker who’ll score 20/25 goals a year that City have with Haaland. Jesus, I love the way he plays, and he’s key to the patterns Arsenal weave. Will the fact he’s a 10/15 goal a season be the difference? We’ll have to wait and see.“
Manchester City have done it before without a prolific striker
Jesus may not be a 25-goal-a-season player, but his overall game is crucial to the way Arteta wants the team to play. And Jesus is still capable of scoring 15 goals a season.
In the 2021/22 season, Pep Guardiola led Mancester City to the league title without a prolific striker, so there’s no reason why Arsenal can’t do the same.
Arsenal aren’t top of the league right now by fluke. They have been absolutely brilliant so far this season, and if they can carry that form through to the second-half of the campaign, they will be able to go on and secure their first title in 20 years.
Putting the doubts aside, Jesus certainly has what it takes to lead Arsenal to this title.
