Mohun Bagan vs Machhindra: Mohun Bagan’s early dominance
Mohun Bagan started the match brightly and took the lead in the 15th minute through Liston Colaco. He scored with a powerful shot from outside the box. Mohun Bagan continued to dominate the match and doubled their lead in the 35th minute through David Williams. He scored with a header from a corner kick.
Machhindra FC pulled a goal back in the 55th minute through Suraj Jeu Thakuri. He scored with a header from a free kick. However, Mohun Bagan quickly regained control of the match and sealed the victory with a goal from Kiyan Nassiri in the 80th minute. He scored with a low shot from inside the box.
Liston Colaco’s outstanding performance
Liston Colaco was the star of the show for Mohun Bagan. He scored one goal and was involved in several other chances. He was a constant threat to the Machhindra FC defense and he was unlucky not to score more goals.
David Williams also had a good game, scoring one goal and creating several others. He was a physical presence up front and he was always willing to fight for the ball.
Machhindra FC’s Disappointing Performance
Machhindra FC put up a brave fight but they were simply not good enough on the day. They created a few chances but they were unable to convert them. Some poor defending also undid them.
The match referee, Alireza Faghani from Iran, had a good game. He made some good decisions and kept the match under control. He was not afraid to give cards when necessary and he did not allow the game to get out of hand.
The match outcome
The match was a comfortable win for Mohun Bagan. They were the better team on the day and they deserved to win. They will now face the winner of the match between Bashundhara Kings and Maziya S&RC in the third preliminary round of the AFC Cup.
