About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Mehtab Singh has signed a three-year contract extension, keeping him with the Islanders through May 2026, and Mumbai City FC is happy to announce it.

The 25-year-old has improved steadily since joining Mumbai City FC in 2020. And cemented himself as a cornerstone in the Islanders’ defence. Mehtab was a key component of Des Buckingham’s team that won the League Winners’ Shield in 2022–23, qualified for the AFC Champions League again, and finished second in the Durand Cup.

Mehtab has improved as a center-back throughout his tenure with the Islanders. Becoming one of the league’s best passers in the 2022–23 ISL. The young Punjabi defender has five goals to his credit while wearing the Mumbai City jersey. The best of which was a thunderous left-footed strike against the Kerala Blasters in Kochi during the 2022–23 league season.

Mehtab’s impressive displays for the Islanders eventually grabbed the attention of the Indian National Team. Moreover, in March 2023, he got a call from the senior national team. And made his debut in a 1-0 victory over Myanmar at the Hero Tri-Nation Football Tournament in Manipur. He had previously played for the India U-23 team in the AFC U-23 Championship.

Mehtab is a native of Khemkaran in Punjab. He started playing football at the Mahilpur Football Academy before joining the East Bengal youth team in 2016. He completed two seasons with the East Bengal main team. Including a loan stint at Gokulam Kerala, after turning up strong performances for the U-18s. Mehtab later moved to the Islanders in 2020. There he played in a historic AFC Champions League campaign. And won twice in the Group Stage while also capturing the ISL “double” of the League Winners’ Shield and the Trophy.
