2021 was the year when Lionel Messi moved to PSG as a free agent. This was arguably the biggest free agent signing in the history of football. Big things awaited the little genius in the French capital with his friends playing in PSG also. However, the Argentinian did not have an easy start to life at his new club. Last year was not the most fruitful for Messi and PSG as they were humiliated in the UCL by Real Madrid. However, they won the Ligue 1 which was the least they had to do. Messi himself had a disappointing first season hitting his lowest-ever goal tally.
But this season things look to take a big turn. Messi has started the season in fine form. PSG are looking in ruthless form with Mbappe, Neymar, and Messi leading the line. The Parisians have strengthened themselves in various positions this summer. It is finally looking like they can be worthy winners of the UCL. Lionel Messi is racking up assists in fun and is the main playmaker of the team. He has had a great start to the new season as the nerves have calmed down. And apart from performing on the pitch, Messi has made PSG one of the most marketable clubs around.
The Argentine legend has attracted various commercial companies who in turn have sponsored with PSG. As per reports, signing Messi generated over £600 million for the club. PSG had a 13% increase to their current income after signing deals with Dior and GOAT. The value of the team has also multiplied following Leo’s arrival going past the €300 million mark for the first time in the club’s history. In terms of shirt sales also, Messi leads the way at Parc des Princes. He accounts for around 60% of total shirt sales for PSG.
Can Messi lead PSG to European Success this time?
PSG maybe have had the best transfer window of all the clubs in Europe. The Parisians knew exactly what they wanted and did not make many big money moves in the market. Rather it was a smart and efficient business by them. They signed the likes of Mukiele, Soler, Ruiz, Sanches, and Vitinha. Galtier was very sure of how he wanted his team to play. Messi is the central playmaker with Neymar and Mbappe the finishers. No wonder Lionel Messi has the most assists in Europe in 2022.
Messi will be hoping to maintain this form for PSG. Expectations are big once again from him as the WC is near. The little genius will look to be at his best to lead Argentina to glory. The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich will all be looking down at PSG as the top contender. This is only the playmaking side of the greatest player of all time. If Lionel Messi gets into his best goalscoring form, there will be no team capable of stopping him.
